Chapter Three

She smiled at him from the passenger seat of his car. “I’ve got delicious cheesecake in the fridge and I don’t want to eat it alone,” she said huskily.

His breath caught and his entire body seemed to still. She didn’t think it possible that his eyes could get any darker, but they did. However, light flickered in their depths.

“Kate, I’ve wanted you since the first time I saw you. If I come home with you tonight, it will be far from the civilized rendezvous we’ve shared so far.”

The statement raced through her like an electric current, shooting a dose of fear and excitement into her veins. She placed her hand on his leg, feeling the solid muscles tense in response. “I know.”

Tanton insisted on sharing a slice of cake and fed her while they sat on her sofa. “Now open those scrumptious lips,” he ordered and she obeyed, closing her eyes to relish the amazingly creamy dessert and the art of his seduction.

“Mmm…so good,” she murmured while a morsel disappeared into his mouth.

“Indeed.” He put the plate of half-finished dessert on the coffee table and shifted his body toward her.

He’d shrugged out of his suit jacket earlier and her eyes moved over him with feminine appreciation as she reached for his tie. She detected a shift in his breathing as she worked on the knot, dropping the garment to the floor. Then she leaned back against the tall armrest and looked at him.

He undid the first two buttons of his shirt with one hand and moved closer. His scent was clean and spicy and her heart accelerated in anticipation of their first kiss. Their legs brushed against each other as his hands framed her face. His gaze dropped to her mouth.

“You’ve got a bit of cream on your lip…should I clean it up?” he asked huskily.

She nodded, her eyes fluttering shut as his mouth moved over hers lightly, his tongue flicking out to lick her bottom lip before pulling it between his lips. A breathtaking shudder shot through her and she clasped his shoulders.

He tilted his head and fit his mouth to hers tightly with a low moan. He sampled her mouth with escalating desire, biting down gently on her lips while tasting their surface with his tongue. Hungrily, he plied her lips open and explored the warm cavity inside, their tongues meeting eagerly. His thumb caressed her throat, stirring the pulse point to a visible throb. The kiss went on almost endlessly.

She gasped as he finally broke the connection, their breath coming out in short bursts. He pulled away from her a little and dropped his gaze to the rapid rise and fall of her breasts under the black dress. Kate’s lips felt swollen.

He took her hand, ebony eyes intense with purpose. “Kate…where is your bedroom?”

She stood on unsteady legs and he joined her. Once in her room, he turned on the bedside lamp and dimmed the light, throwing the planes of his face into shadowed angles. She noted his flared nostrils, the sexual tension in his body and swallowed a tang of nervousness.
